The Basics of Roullete

Roullete is one of the oldest casino games in existence and has been a favorite at casinos around the world for over two centuries. Although it seems simple enough, it has a surprising depth and the right strategy can reap high rewards for serious betters. The game is played on a roulette wheel and players bet on which number, section or color the ball will land on. In order to correctly make bets on the game players place chips on a betting mat and the precise location of these determines what wager has been made. Various betting combinations exist all of which have different odds for winning and payouts for winning bets. These bets can be divided into three main categories: inside bets, outside bets and announced bets.

The roulette wheel consists of a solid wooden disk slightly convex in shape with metal separators or frets around its edge. These compartments, called canoes by roulette croupiers, are painted alternately red and black and numbered from 1 to 36. There is also a separate green compartment labelled 0 on European-style wheels and a second green one labelled 00 on American roulette tables.

Before each spin the croupier (dealer) will clear the table of any previous bets and then players make their wagers. Once the bets are in place the croupier throws a small ball into the spinning wheel and if any of the players have made winning bets they will receive their payout. The payout amount varies depending on what type of bet was placed, but all winning bets are paid out in the form of cash.

In addition to placing bets on individual numbers or groups of numbers, players can also place outside bets which are based on certain propositions such as high-low, odd-even, red-black, first, second and third dozen. These bets are a little more complicated and have their own rules which you should be familiar with if you want to play the game to its fullest.

Another type of announced bet is the Voisins du Zero which covers a large number of numbers and pays out more than other bets but it comes with an extra house edge. There is also a special bet known as Le Tiers du Cylindre which is very similar to the Voisins du Zero but it covers more numbers. This bet can be found in some online European roulette variations but not all of them.
